Here we are, a little over a year into this COVID-19 pandemic. We can't seem get traction to move forward with the new cases and the variants. With the vaccines rolling out and becoming more and more available, I feel like we are about to see a dramatic reduction in the cases as we move closer to herd immunity. I have been hearing some mixed reviews from the reaction from the vaccines, so I wasn't sure what to think about getting mine. I just had mine today so I figured it would be a great topic to share my experience.
I was able to register for my vaccine a few months ago and as much as I wanted to get it right away, I chose to wait until those who were more at risk were able to get it first, like doctors and nurses. With our cleaning standards as massage therapists as well as the additional protocols, I feel like the clinic has a very low risk of transmission for the virus. A few of my co-workers registered for their vaccine, so I followed suit and signed up for mine. About a week later I received the phone call for the pre-screening and for additional information for the follow up phone call about booking my appointment (with my preferred times). It was about 2 weeks before I received the call to book and they were able to book my second shot at the same time. To my surprise, I was able to book in the day after my phone call! The phone call was very informative and instructed me on what to do and what to bring for my appointment. I walked in, provided my information, sat with the nurse to get my vaccine, then waited the necessary 15 minutes after to ensure that I wouldn't have an allergic reaction. Upon checking out of the hospital, they collected my consent form and gave me the card as proof that I am vaccinated. A few hours in, and I'm still feeling pretty good! I'm not a huge fan of needles, and the only thing I'm feeling is a little tenderness in the arm. I was a little concerned about going into a hospital in this pandemic, but it was a very smooth and safe system. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. 15 of those minutes were just waiting to see if I had a reaction. Overall, it was a very positive experience and I'm early waiting for my follow up! It is your choice wither or not to get vaccinated. But regardless of your choice, PLEASE follow the Ottawa Public Health guidelines:
-Monitor your symptoms
-Isolate if you or someone in your household is experiencing symptoms
-Get tested if you have symptoms or if you (or someone in your household) has come into contact with someone who tested positive
